Hi
Im currently taking 3 x 120mg of fumaderm per day. I take one at 6am before setting off for work. The second about 2/3 pm. and the final one about 9pm before bed.
Its the first one in the morning that gets me. I only have a cup of tea before setting off for work. I go to the Lou before setting off and all seems pretty normal, but after an hours drive to work I am at the toilet for the next three hours probably up to ten visits. my stomach rarely settles until lunch time. I eat my lunch about 10am and after more visits my stomach settles. The other two tablets are relatively easy to tolerate. I am quite happy with the results as it is just starting to work. Can anyone shed any light on why this first tablet hits me so hard. I apologise for the subject t know who else to ask. but don't know who else to ask. Kissass

Hi I'm thinking it's because you take the tablet with just a cup in tea in the morning...the tablets should always be taken with food and plenty of fluid.....

I guessing taking them on a relatively empty stomach is causing this effect

Try having some toast or cereal with your morning tablet and more than just a cup of tea to drink

It's what Jim says.  Don't take the pills on an empty stomach, you should take care to have some, or even better a good meal in your stomach before taking the pills.

It is so that the working substance of Fumaderm, dimetylfumarate, and the inside of your intestines do not cope well together. DMF is irritating for the coverage of your intestines.
So I guess your intestines will react in a way to get everything that bothers, out of them, hence your visits to the loo.

If you take it with a meal, the release of the DMF in your intestines will be more spread by the food and it will take a longer spread out time to get into your blood by the osmoses in your intestines.
This is the reason also that here in the Netherlands, the enteric coated slow release version has been developed, which gives less trouble.

Anyway it is known that you should
- Have breakfast like an emperor,
- Lunch like a king
- and dinner like a tramp.....

Smile

Oh, and by the way, Bill is taking his DMF in one pulse, not spread over the day, maybe that might be an option for you to discuss with your derm?

If you don't have time for breakfast before leaving for work. Don't take the tablet till your 10am lunch break. As long as you're eating and drinking you will be fine

I take 3 tablets in the morning with my breakfast, which is usually either a couple of slices of toast and a couple of coffee's then I take 2 in the evening with my meal washed down with either a pint of cider or beer ( strictly medicinal)
