Plaque Psoriasis & Psoriasis arthiritis

Hi  all 1st time post!! Just wanted to ask is there any recommendations for plaque psoriasis I have some on my knees & elbows.  Not too bad Im lucky but wud love to be completely rid of it for once.  Had it since Im 14 & age 39 now ?
Also what age does psoriasis arthritis usually start & what are the initial symptoms

Hi Landscrape and a big welcome to the club, here you will be with fellow sufferers many still looking for a treatment and some of us that have found what works for us.
If it's on knees and elbows and it bothers you go to your GP who can give you some topical treatments, look here to see the differences Dovobet And Dovonex (What's the difference ?)

You ask what age psoriatic arthritis can strike, I think I'm right in saying it like psoriasis can hit you at any age,

When you see your doctor ask to be referred to a dermatologist who might think you should be on one of the oral treatments like methotrexate, but it will depend on the severity of your psoriasis..

As you know there is no cure,  but it should be possible to control it effectively when you find the right treatment

Welcome!

You might want to try coconut oil, it helps moisturize and can help with itching. There is a lot of info here on different treatments and members willing to share what has and hasn't worked for them. You've had psoriasis for a while now so you're not new to the disease which will help you determine which way to go. You may already have tried some things that didn't work out for you. Feel free to ask away, this is a helpful group of people.

As to psoriatic arthritis, I do not have it but many of the members here do.

Hello Landscrape   to Psoriasis Club.

#1 Recommendations for plaque psoriasis: We are all different and what works for on may not work for another. Some get relief from a simple cream or even a diet, but some need a full out treatment with a Bio. There is no one suit fits all, so I would recommend having a good look around the forum and see what others are using and ask questions.

#2 Completely getting rid of it: This isn't going to happen. Once you get psoriasis it's there for the rest of your life, but it can be managed and it's all about working with your dermatologist to get the right treatment for you that will keep it under control. *What ever you do, don't fall for all the scams out there.

#3 What age and symptoms of psoriatic arthritis: Around 10-20% of people with psoriasis will go onto to get psoriatic arthritis, but it can come at any time of your life. When/If it does come it can be very severe or just a mild inconvenience, it can also get worse or go into remission just like psoriasis. As for the symptoms it usually starts with inflamed tender joints which can lead to inflamed red toes and fingers, also psoriatic arthritis will cause worse nail splitting and pitting than psoriasis. This post explains more: Psoriatic Arthritis but I would say don't worry about psoriatic arthritis until you get it (if you get it).
