Kit, is Fumaderm an immune suppressant? I'm really anxious that my dermatologist is probably going to recommend that sort of treatment, I'd be interested to know why you couldn't cope with the treatment, was it the side effects?

Also how responsive was UV therapy for you?

I will certainly take a look at your pictures, I plan to start my own Journal too, just so i can look at how i'm improving, or not lol..

Well DMF has immuno suppressing capabilities, but the case is a bit more complex. The active content of Fumaderm is DMF, you can read more about it over here Dimethylfumarates and Psoriasis.
About 70% of the people that will try it have a positive effect on their Psoriasis or PSA.

Hi Guys

Sorry it's been a while since my last post. I did a 6 week course of UVB light therapy and it worked wonders, my skin was pretty much clear for about 2 months after, but now it's starting to creep back again.

I was wondering if it's risky to use one of these at home (skin cancer etc)

LINK REMOVED

I'm so tempted to buy one as i'm pretty sure it'll help clear it up again, but not sure if they are safe to use, opinions?

Hi and welcome Sam, get yourself a good dermatologist and don't rely on the GP, try a good coconut oil as a moisturiser because it's really good one and not to expensive. Most treatments , in fact all treatments , will only work for a limited period of time it's just some are better than others and of course what works for one does not necessarily work for someone else . UV lights are, in my humble opinion, not to be used without supervision as my niece used one and ended up with skin cancer , I had quite a few sessions and they stopped me from using it anymore.
Have a good read on the site and ask any questions you want and you will find that the answers will be honest from people who have the same problem , when you see your derm next time go armed with list of different treatments and see which ones that they recommend then have another look on here to see which you think will suit you.
All the best, look after yourself Dave

Hi Sam I can understand why you would want to buy a UVB lamp but if you do please take great care as it could be damaging your skin and the benefit is short term, I will agree with Dave that you should get a referral to a dermatologist, he can offer you treatment that can give you long term clearance and with monitoring be really safe

You asked earlier about Fumaderm and did it lower your immune system .....it can lower your white blood count ( which is reversible on tweaking with the dose) I have been on it over four and a half years and I have less illnesses than I had before I started taking it....so I doubt it is likely to make you susceptible to more illness , although like all the drugs it does need monitoring

If you see a dermatologist ask their opinion of home UVB treatment, I know my dermatologist frowns on it because it's impossible to monitor it the same as in a hospital ....and you are just treating the skin not the cause of the disease .

There are many things a dermatologist can offer which will be less costly to you than a lamp and safer while you are being monitored
