Hi Garf             welome !!

I am in the Acitretin club - I do have a journal going but in Brief:

I suffer from Palmar Plantar Pustular Psoriasis - I tried all the steroid creams but to no avail.
My palms and soles/heels of my feet were awful and I was in awful pain and shed skin like crazy.

I have been on Acitretin for 12 weeks now and my skin has finally stopped shedding and I am not in pain
my side effects:  lost my eybrows and eyelshes, dry lips, slightly itchy back

I use the raw unrefined coconut oil to keep my skin moisturised overnight

I decided to abstain from Alcohol as for the amount I was allowed it didn't seem worth the bother  - consequently my Liver function has improved greatly !

Good luck with your treatment but if the creams don't work go back to your Dermo to discuss alternatives.
hope this was helpful

Hi there, welcome to the club . The inmates on here are great and probably know more about the real problem with P / PsA than anywhere else and any questions will be answered honestly. Good luck with your regime.

I just read your first post again - I had private health cover when I first had a big flare up and I used it to see a derm but he transferred me straight back to see him under nhs, because first of all they didn't have the uvb facilities and second, I had an outpatient limit including drugs and would quickly go over the limit.
But Bupa cover might be different, you should look into it..

Hi and welcome to the club! : Welcome
I was on Acitretin and whilst it cleared the psoriasis very quickly, unfortunately the side effects were too much for me to cope with. However what works for one will not necessarily work for another and so it is well worth giving it a go. I am now on Apremilast (otezla) and have had fantastic results after 3 months. Saw my g.p. this week, who informed me he had a few patients on this, but none have so far had the results that I have seen.
I was all ready to give up on drug treatments and was resigning myself to putting up with being wrapped in tar and bandages from head to toe. This group gave me support and encouragement and enabled me to address my fears of side effects. So read through the various posts, everyone is friendly and as I know, when feeling really down, there is always someone willing to listen and respond.
Sandra
