I've just signed up today as I feel I need to share this with all fellow sufferers. I've suffered for years, nails, feet, elbow, knees, bottom. I've used every potion known to no avail.  however I recently suffered extremely bad back pain and have had steriod in junctions to my facet joints...i am 2 weeks post injections and I do not have one patch on my body....true, honestly, have any doctors on this forum a reason behind this and why is it not being offered as a solution to the terrible creams and medication? ...  Has anyone else had the same injections with the same results?

Hi Kennettz and a big  Welcome  to the forum, I will tell you right away that we don't have any doctors on the forum it is just sufferers here who help each other get by with this terrible disease , we share information on medications and what does and doesn't work for us

I'm glad the Facet joint steroid injections have had a desired effect on your psoriasis and cleared it,

That is not unexpected as the steroids are likely to work on the psoriasis in a similar way to putting steroid creams on only they are putting it directly into your system.in a probably larger dose ..hopefully the clearance will last for you, if not get to a dermatologist and ask for one of the systemic treatments see Oral Treatments For Psoriasis for alternatives should the psoriasis come back

Enjoy your time on the forum, we are a friendly group and welcome new members and invite you to look around and if you want something a bit more light hearted join us in the off topic section

Good luck and thanks for posting your experience, and I hope you will update us as time goes on  Thumb

Jim

Welcome!

As Jim said it would make sense that a steroid injection could help since most psoriasis creams have steroids in them. I've had steroid injections, and they didn't affect my psoriasis. Of course there are different types of psoriasis, different types of steroid injections and what works for one doesn't always have an effect on another. But glad it helped you with your psoriasis Smile

Thanks to all for your lovely comments. I've searched to see if others have also found facet joint injections clear their psoriasis and they are out there.  It does seem too good to be true - such a life changing impact.  Its been such a long time since I've had smooth, flake free skin...  Surely injections are easier than creams and should be offered to all sufferers.  May be worth asking GPS???

Hi Kennettz,

That is great, but with steroids you think of rebounds, rather like the tide going out before a tsunami hits. Why would such a result not be expected with facet injections (painful?), and what treatment plan does your specialist have? Psoriasis is not curable as yet.

Cheers,

Bill

Hello Kennettz Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

First off we don't have any doctors or professional health care members, if there were any we wouldn't allow them to post as we are the only independent psoriasis website out there for psoriasis patients their friends and family only.

I'm pleased you are clear after receiving steroid injections, but it won't be a cure! The is No Cure for psoriasis and it will probably come back. It can go into remission and that has probably happened because of the steroid injects. Steroid injections work against inflammatory problems and psoriasis is an inflammatory problem, so for now it will calm down.

As for why it's not used. Steroid injections are not a long term solution for psoriasis and as such are not recognised as a treatment.

Sorry to sound so negative about it and I admire your enthusiasm about wanting to share, but it won't be made available for treating psoriasis and it's not a cure.

You need to see a dermatologist for your psoriasis they are better suited in treating you, and today there are more treatments than just creams that can help keep it under control.

Regards.

Fred.

I am glad that you have clearance of your P but I think you will find that it is short term but I hope that I am wrong , steroids do effect the skin on larger doses .
Repeated and frequent use has the potential to lead to more serious side effects, but it must be kept in mind that the dose that is used in the injection is very small compared to those taking steroids by mouth on a daily basis for conditions such as, asthma or arthritis. In those circumstances, side effects such as increase in appetite, weight gain, thinning of the bones (osteoporosis), thinning of the skin, eye problems (glaucoma, cataract), weakness, depression, rounded face, high blood pressure and water retention have been seen. Oral contraceptive pills may increase the level of steroids in the blood.
I think that you have been very lucky as it seems to have caused a remission long may it continue for you but I would try to arrange an appointment with a dermatologist and have a chat about your condition.
Welcome to the site and I will be very interested to see what long term clearance you have

Dave

Hello and welcome. I just had some steriod shots - however they are dangerous and can cause diabetes for starters.

Hi, nice to meet you! Yes, steroids do clear you up, I was put on prednisolone by my derm when my p went nuts and it cleared me, relief was within a day or two. Unfortunately you can't stay on steroids.. Shame!
