After reading some of your replies I'm definitely going to persevere with the treatment, I was given three months worth, so I'll see how it goes. I'm going abroad next week and due to the state of my skin, especially my legs, I'm rather dreading it! I'm paranoid people will be staring x

I was exactly like you, Mandy and would not uncover despite everyone telling me no one would notice...it's a state of mind that's difficult to shake off .....and I share your dread .....

I would say try to tough it out as you won't know anyone there, and after a couple of days sun you may see an improvement

I used to go to a quiet part of the beach when I went abroad for the first few days and put steroid cream on and after a few days I used to notice a difference ...not clear by any measure but I was a bit more comfortable uncovering .
I imagine it's worse as a woman ~~~~~I don't know why I said that~~~~~~~ it's bad for men and women. Blush

I hope you manage to have a good time and hope the psoriasis won't marr it too much ..and Fred is right other people on holiday are busy enjoying their holidays and probably won't pay attention to you

Good luck and come and tell us all about it when you get back  Thumb

Ignore them I do. You have played the same as them. Just be careful in the sun though as Acitretin can senistise you to UV and are likely to burn easier than you would normally. Use a good factor 30. Forget the 50 as it only offers a 1% increase in protection and you are more likely to have a reaction to the chemicals in it if you are sensitive to them.
Enjoy your holiday and let us know how you go on

Take my advice; I don't use it anyway.

Welcome Mandy!

I was on Acitretin and it took a few months before I noticed any clearing. But when I did start to clear, things went fast. It's very slow to start working though and in some cases people say they get worse before getting better.

I didn't have many side effects, nothing major.

I hope it works well for you, keep us posted.

And don't worry what others think...... I understand (we all do!) but don't let it stop you from doing what you want to do.

Welcome to the club

I am an Acitretin girl -   I have been on it 12 weeks,  it did flare up at first but has now settled down.
I have slow improvement at the moment - On 35mg/day
Side affects so far :  dry lips and nose membranes, lost my eyelashes and some of my eyebrows.
Other than that I feel fine
Beware of being out in the sun - I have been advise to use Factor 50 (Soltan Kids is excellent)
organic unrefined coconut oil is great, also try Dermol 500 - it is non greasy so is ideal for use during the day. It is also antimicrobial.
look forward to hearing your progress

Tink x
