Thank you Bill I don't want to buy it though. (And if I did I wouldn't by it from India on Ebay) No I was more interested in quantity and cost in the USA under their health care system as the information could be of interest to others in the USA.

One good reason not to buy on Ebay Jim.

Warning: Etin Skin Solution contains a potent steroid Do Not Use.

No joke Fred it retails at $1500.00 USD per tube. That does not mean that is what the insurance pays for it. It is a niche product, been bought and sold by various compaines. It is probably being used to fund another drug's research, so it is market up probably 5000% of what it cost. I am guessing it cost under $30.00 USD to make.

It's amazing what price they can get away with, probably like you say it's to help fund other research. But I suppose if governments and/or insurance companies are willing to pay it then the price will remain high.

I guess it is right so Fred. Those who are in power and have enough connections will gain.

There are also other reasons that prices stay high. E.g. Over here the MS patients organisation agrees with the very high price of DMF. Their motivation is that finally there is something that helps against this disease, so they don't care about the price.

In the mean time India is a very well educated country. It also does not accept blindly all patents that are thrown out by the USPTO. Very much medication that over here is still expensive is already very cheap in India. True, sometimes it goes wrong, as in your example, but that is not the default.

There are international accreditation standards for pharmaceuticals, such as those of the WHO. If those standards are being met I cannot see why the country of origin should be of any relevance. More fool you for paying $1500 for a product you could buy for less than $40. I am sure that no item of the Emperor's new clothing was made in India: Way too cheap to be of any quality!

Cheers,

Bill

I know when I said I wouldn't buy from India .. Let me clarify that, what I meant is what Fred mentioned, buying drugs from India on eBay, there is so much fake stuff sold on eBay as genuine. I would not take the chance .
I think the emperors new clothes came from China and were made of polyester  Tongue

Well Jim, it is pretty easy to find at many on line pharmacies, with some offering the product for less than $20 each when you buy six. As the man said to his daughter at the fruit market, "Shirley, they are not all Cons.".

Cheers,

Bill

85 indeed but it doesn't address the problem of getting drugs through customs in America (I hope the CIA aren't watching this) and if they are I hope they read the whole conversation  Confused

Shirley it's not worth the risk the daughter replied  Whistle
