Chatting about creams

Hi

Had psoriasis since I was 24 I'm 39 now. I firmly believe in the theory (well for me anyway) it's a stress based illness, as when I am happy it slowly goes away on it's own. I have however tried a couple of creams.. Dovonex was excellent! one application lasted 6 months at one time another 8 months, while Dovobet is a hard slog for me.. it works..kinda, takes ages and many many applications, I can finish a tube in under a week if i'm not careful (my psoriasis is quite extreme, covering I'd guess 16th of my body). I asked the doctor for Dovonex again a few years ago..but he said the NHS don't prescribe it anymore because it's too expensive. He offered me Dovobet.. I tried to insist but no. Then in 2011 I got confused between them and asked for Dovobet.. I was so surprised when he agreed! Using it.. ahh it reduces my plaque but I need to keep using it but then I have to go back.. pay for a taxi..you get the idea. I have sleep apnoea also (which is stress related) so my memory is junk, and im not awake at the same time + remember to get to the doctors. They get quite annoyed if you miss appointments ..not so much with me, but i wouldn't like to let anyone down. 

I bought Dithrocream online to give it a go.. my fiancee is always telling me to look after myself and im starting to think she's right. I just wish I could get that Dovonex again.. that was brilliant for me!

Hi Dava and a big    to the forum, I'm glad you found your way here, as here you will be with people that understand the disease and its unpleasant ways, we are all happy to share our experiences of what works

I'm glad you got on well with Dovonex ( which is still available ) and is a vitamin d derivative so not as harmful as Dovabet which is a steroid cream.
I never got any benefit from Dovonex although it is a good cream to use

I would suggest your doctor is not very clued up on psoriasis and I think you should ask him to refer you to a dermatologist  who will offer you different treatments and if you mention to him that Dovonex works for you I'm sure he would prescribe it, and you would then be on the hospital radar and would get checked on regularly depending on the severity of your psoriasis

Aaaaah Nardinis ice cream ( I think that's the one ) , went in there for tea last year when we were up there

You are correct stress does affect psoriasis, you may also be interested in this thread: Psoriasis and Sleep Apnea study

As for Dovonex as far as I know it's still available and it sounds like you have a rubbish Doctor! I would recommend you get him to refer you to a dermatologist as they are better suited to treat you, you've had it 15 years now and it's time to move on from creams.

Don't go buying on-line and try treating yourself, things have moved on a lot in 15 years and you could be pleasantly surprised once you have spoken to a dermatologist.

ah Nardini's thats the one! haven't had one in years! We have Dino's in helensburgh, but im not up there often.

Thanks Fred, gave that a read. about my doctor.. I find it hard to see him regularly, or most time at all, unless my brother helps me out with a lift (on the day booked) but he works late evenings now and sleeps a good part of the day. im not sure what to do. Most days I wake up drunk from the apnoea and in no fit state to be seeing anyone..ive been up for 4 hours now, still feel drunk and super tired from the lack of oxygen.

Online seemed like I was 'doing something' about it.. I totally agree it's far from ideal. But it was 'do-able'.. dont know what to do.

I'm not sure which is your main problem, is it the sleep Apnea or the psoriasis, if I were you I would seek help for the sleep apnea ... As that must be a contributing factor to your psoriasis, if you aren't sleeping properly, and wake in a state in the morning. It must be stressful, I think it is treatable and you should try to get to a doctor to get a hospital referral for sleep apnea and psoriasis, I can appreciate it may be difficult but if you explain to your brother your problem I'm sure he would try to help with lifts to the doctors

I'm sure coming here will do more good than online shopping for cures, there is so much information for you to try out in the natural treatment section
