Hello to everyone ( those who know me and those who have yet to become acquainted ).
It's a long story but I have had PPP for some time now. Managed (eventually) to stabilise on cyclosporine to the point where I got a full time job. But now I have been kicked off them by a new Dermatologist (another long story).
My dilemma at this point is that the new treatment proposed has the potential to take weeks to kick in, if indeed it does. I haven't been to work for a week. Deterioration has been swift to the point where I can walk no further than 50 yards.
Every morning I have to call in sick and I have been told I have to get sick notes to qualify for SSP. I was under the impression that my employer doesn't pay sick pay so is SSP different? Are they legally obliged to pay me it for 28 weeks? Only £81 a week I think but better than nothing I suppose.
I was originally thinking it was best just to give notice but am not sure now where I would stand ( metaphorically not physically Wink ).
Sorry for the convoluted post and if I have posted in the wrong section.

No it's in the right place. Thumb

But personally I can't help as you know I live in France and I've lost touch with the system over there, I'll have a word with Jim he's good at sniffing things out about the UK.

Thanks Fred.
Never claimed SSP before.
I left my Employee Handbook at work but my colleague has posted it out for me so I can read up on the sickness procedure.
Trying to do an income/expenditure sheet is nigh impossible when you have no idea what you are doing ( and have brain wobbles due to pain). Wink

As far as I know SSP. Has to be paid by your employer if you are long term sick, you will need a certificate from your doctor and your employer should pay at least statutory sick pay ... For I believe 28 weeks.
I will look at it a bit closer.later ... My better half does the payroll at my business, but she's in sleep mode at the moment but I will have a word in the morning
Whatever you do don't quit, that will let your employer off the hook. I will find out for certain
( I have never paid SSP I'm one of the few employers who just keep paying full wages when anyone was off sick..) ..

Thank you jiml.

You are a star.
Need to sort this out so it's one less thing to stress over.

I'm sure we can sort it out without too much stress. Put it out of your mind for now, but get a doctors note for your employer. Just remember you have rights. So don't jump, Thumb

I have extracted these bits from the government website
NO LINKS ALLOWED

Quote:
To qualify for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) you must:

be classed as an employee and have done some work for your employer
have been ill for at least 4 days in a row (including non-working days)
earn at least £111 (before tax) per week
tell your employer you’re sick before their deadline - or within 7 days if they don’t have one
.
.
If you’re not eligible or your SSP ends
You may be able to apply for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) if you’re not eligible for SSP or your SSP has ended or is coming to an end.

You do this using form SSP1, which your employer will give you:

within 7 days of you going off sick, if you don’t qualify for SSP
within 7 days of your SSP ending, if it ends unexpectedly while you are still sick
on or before the beginning of the 23rd week, if your SSP is expected to end before your sickness does

If you need to know more let me know ... I may be difficult to get hold of as a have a lot of driving in the next couple of days... But I do monitor my emails and the forum  regularly

Thanks for the advice Dave.
Am pretty sure I signed something. Am awaiting my employee handbook ( colleague at work is posting it out as I left it at work).
Thing is, I am still on probationary period. They extended it because I had a day off ( collapsed on the bus) and I was due to be signed off probation just before this hit again. :(
There are 5 of us at our store but it is a fairly big company ( 40 stores + head office + factory).
I have never heard of anyone getting DLA for p&ppp. :-O Well done! I considered it when it all started a few years ago but the odds of getting it seemed dire.

Hi
I am new to this board, wish I had found something like this years ago. Am about to start Acitretin, when the consultant decides to send me an appointment. Anyway, mine is ok ish.

However, I am an HR Manager so to answer your question about SSP. SSP means Statutory Sick Pay and is paid by the Government. Companies do not have to pay you, it depends on their Sickness Absence policy coupled with how long you have worked there usually. You can get SSP for up to 28 weeks, although it is reasonable to assume that you may not still have your job if you haven't been there long. SSP amount per week is £87.55.

Hope this helps.
