Question  Wed-14-05-2014, 23:40 PM
Gosh, all these symbols! All I know is that this is causing me much distress. Doctors suggest steroids but didn't realise it was everywhere -have gone down that route -it's now getting difficult to control -people making comments at work! I know I shouldn't but scraping off with my nails - relief instant but pain afterwards. It's on my face!

Oh Moogoo let me first Welcome you to the club. And say you have come to the right place for advice and support.
Yes psoriasis is very nasty and the more we stress about it the worse it seems to get. Just hang on line a bit longer and I will point you at some threads to read tonight

Well moogoo I'm sorry you are having such a bad time with your psoriasis as I said you have found us here and in my opinion you won't get better information anywhere else
Fred who runs the site keeps up to date with all the latest research and there are threads on here about all types of treatments in the health boards.
I must ask are you under a dermatologist at the moment, if not tell your doctor you need a referral to one.
Creams and potions are fine but they will only do so much. Get the dermatologist to offer you either tablets or injections . They will probably want to start you on methotrexate as it's the dermatologists cheapest option some love it for me it worked well at ridding me of the dreaded scales and redness, not a pleasant drug though, but when you are desperate you will take anything for relief, and if you can tolerate it it will probably work,
The treatment I'm on is called Fumaderm it's a slow worker but not toxic like methotrexate.
Here are some links to get started all worth a read just click on the blue links to go to the posts
Dimethylfumarates and Psoriasis
Methotrexate
Biological Treatments For Psoriasis
Acitretin
Hope you find your way around as I say if not let me know in a post and I will help
Jim

Hello Moogoo Welcome to Psoriasis Club.

Like Jim said Are you seeing a dermatologist? if not demand to see one as they are better suited than your family doctor. If you are seeing a dermatologist explain to them it is getting you down and you need to try something else.

As for the people making comments at work, if they are nasty comments then you should talk to your boss. However ignorance could be the problem, your work colleagues may not know what it is and just don't understand.

I understand you probably don't want to, but I would try explaining to some of your closest colleagues what psoriasis is and how it can affect your life. Also tell them it's not contagious but it can affect anyone at any time of their life. Point them to the What Is Psoriasis page on the menu bar above, If they still make comments then they are not wroth bothering about, but it could be worth reminding them "You Could Be Next"

It does help to accept and talk about it, and once people understand it's an autoimmune problem you will find most will be sympathetic towards you.

Regards.

Fred.
