Hello,
I have only had psoriasis for the last seven years and my first time on a forum.
Just about to start 3rd course of phototherapy. It has been really difficult to manage/control, though consultant is really good. For all those who are perhaps using Dead Sea salt, I thought I would let you know what my consultant had to say. He was involved in extensive research into the affect of Dead Sea salt and the results were it has no effect on psoriasis whatsoever. He also said why pay for sea salt if you believe salt works, just use table salt as cheaper! It appears there is still a lot to learn about psoriasis and a lot of new treatments. I have so far refused to use anything but topical and phototherapy treatments even though I am currently experiencing my worst outbreak yet! However I don't let it stop me doing anything, I even went to work in bare feet, because the psoriasis meant wearing shoes was agony, thank goodness we had a great summer!

Re Dead Sea Salt: I think if you could bath in the Dead Sea each day it could have some affect, but I'm of the opinion that it wouldn't work at home. Having said that I do believe in the placebo effect (if you think it's working it will)

Well done you for not letting psoriasis stop you doing things, a positive attitude is one of the best treatments out there.

Hi Sandra and I hope you enjoy the forum as much as I do I have only been on here just over 1 month and find everyone very friendly. Regarding Dead Sea salt I think it would work if you were on the shores of the Dead Sea and enjoying the sunshine.
I do try to get into the. North Sea in the summer when I can , it does help my psoriasis although I come out purple with cold.

Welcome to the forum! There is some research out there that states visiting that region helps with psoriasis. Not sure how much I believe it, but maybe if you believe, it will help!

Apparently, it's not the salt in the Dead Sea but the sunshine that is doing the job. Any sunny climate will help with the symptoms (according to my consultant).
There are such a lot of products out there claiming to do this or that, it is big business! The only time my psoriasis has been infected was when it was suggested I use aloe vera. Not a good idea for me took several courses of antibiotics to clear the infection. I know we are all different, what works for some does not work for others. I personally stear clear of any products claiming to do this or that for psoriasis. Mine is genetic, thought I was lucky and it had skipped me, then at 45 it started with a vengeance, worse than my mother or brother has ever experienced, I now only use what is prescribed and have to say without epiderm my life would be miserable. I soak in it, wash with it and moisturise with it. Great stuff for me!
Just started phototherapy this week again, good news is I shall have a tan this winter!

I admit there are certainly scams in the psoriasis business. That even stretches to well known pharma who earn a lot of money on psoriasis treatments that hardly work.

BUT... Keep an open mind for possibilities, there are some that make sense and it would be a pity if you missed them because of limiting yourself.

I use Dead Sea Salts. I'm not saying that they definitively help my psoriasis but I love bathing in them for relaxation. Relaxation = less stress = good for psoriasis. Also, DSS do have beneficial minerals that table salt doesn't (in fact table salt is rubbish for anything IMO).

Sunshine is definitely a big help though.
