I thought perhaps the wisdom of real people might help me out.

1. I HAVE always had very sensitive skin - I'm pale and as a kid I got rashes, etc whenever I touched a new plant or critter or used a new product.

2. I had adult acne problems until I went minimalist a couple of years ago ... pretty much any chemical products mess with my skin.

3. I was using a plain homemade coconut oil lotion at night and African black soap-based lotion in the day with pretty good results ...

4. About 2 months ago my routine changed a bit and I started using a (Badger Balm - Damascus Rose Antioxidant Face Oil) as well as a sugar scrub (Tree Hut, coconut lime) on my face; I also shortly used a homemade tallow-based moisturizer from a family member on my face at night (I've stopped now). I clean with facial pads Desert Essence (Desert Essence Natural Tea Tree Oil Facial Cleansing Pads)

5. About two weeks ago I got a BAD scaly and flaky red skin outbreak all over my face to the sides of my mouth ...

I started using a thick pure Bella Terra vitamin E oil on my face at night hoping that would help me heal. It seems to be just as bad today as when it showed up and I can't figure out what is setting it off. I guess I can (and will have to) discontinue all my facial products sand try to re introduce one at a time but I was wondering if anything sent up a red flag with others with this problem.

Anyway, as a total newbie I would love any advice or wisdom anyone might have to share. I try to use clean and natural products and stay as low on chemical saturation as possible ... I don't know what I've done wrong.

Hello Pink,

Welcome to psoriasisclub.

I don't think you did anything wrong. Psoriasis, if it is psoriasis did you see a dermatologist?, just sometimes flares up.
Cause of it may be something happening in your body, and maybe you will never know what.
Did you recently have some infection, e.g. Your throat or so?

Your approach is ok, just don't use anything for a while and let your skin do the work by itself. Over here on the forum there is only one thing that is always praised. A good virgin coconut oil.

Others will kick in today, answering and welcoming you but they are still asleep, and myself I have to go to work now.
Take a look at the forum by yourself, there may already be something interesting.

Hi Pink and a big  Welcome to the club, I agree with Caroline and don't think you have done anything wrong, it seems as if you are very careful with the products you use. However if it is psoriasis you have, putting product on it will not cure it. It might be something other than psoriasis. I hope it is something else that's easier to manage
But I think your first thing should be to get a diagnosis from a dermatologist, and see what advice or treatment they suggest
There are a few on here that treat themselves with natural treatments and perhaps you might get some advice on diet or creams to use
As Caroline said many on here swear by virgin coconut oil as a great natural moisturiser

Good luck

Hi Pink, nice to meet you!

Sorry to hear about this, it's not very nice at all is it.. I'd probably ask my doctor or derm for help over this.

I would advise (for now) no cleansing pads that contain a product, no scrubs etc just plain water and if that makes your skin tight and dry, a really basic moisturiser.
In the uk they would give you e45 emollient cream or similar as a basic moisturiser.
I can't use that on my face. It stings..The basic emoilients aren't necessarily suitable either.

Also I personally don't find coconut oil soothing, so be aware that although many swear by it, it isn't necessarily suitable for all.

Good luck, I'm sure you will get some relief soon.

Since you say you got rashes whenever you touched a new plant or critter, have you been to an allergist?

I had allergies (no rashes from them though) and they did a "rush" treatment which involved spending a couple days at a clinic getting an allergy shot every 30 minutes, followed by a shot once a month for the next year. My last test only showed ONE allergy vs the 20+ ones that showed up years ago.

Just a thought.
