Hi guys,

New user Smile Not new to Psoriasis or PA though :(

My p is not normally too bad and tolerable - I have it restricted (for the last couple of years) to my elbows (the worst), scalp and belly button!
But as of late, probably in the last 6 months I have had episodes where the P on my elbows gets pustular plaques.. normal scales that are full of greenish puss Huh. Before the pus turns up they get VERY itchy, hot and painful (you never realize how much pressure you put on your elbows until you can't!) It does not tend to last too long but is a bit concerning and I can't seem to finds much out there on what might be causing it. From what I have read and seen of Pustular Psoriasis I don't think it is that, although some of the symptoms that go with it rings some bells...??

Does this happen to anyone else? What triggers it? How can I stop it?? Do I need to see my Doctor?
I am not on any meds or creams (2 rounds of methodextrate(sp) cleared up almost all of it apart from the parts I mention above), I am currently using glycerin to keep it moisturized and I find this is working well and perhaps cleared some of it up.

Thanks in advance Smile

Hello Kiwi Welcome to Psoriasis Club

I'm not sure but it does sound a bit like a type of Pustular Psoriasis. I had this problem a couple of years ago with my head, and your description of itchy, hot, and painful rings a bell. I thought I was having a reaction to Stelara at the time but my dermatologist said it looked like Pustular, (She only saw the photo) and if it ever came back I should contact them immediately. But it's never appeared again, so I'm not 100% sure.

This thread has a bit about pustular which may help: Pustular Psoriasis

As for what triggers it, I would say stress, or being wound up about something is probably the biggest culprit. How to stop it? I would get yourself an appointment with a dermatologist for that.

I know we do have a couple of members who have mentioned pustular, and they may be better suited to answer. I will see if I can remember who they are, but please keep us informed.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Kiwi!Welcome I'm Barbi Bigarm, I get pustular on my feet, small blisters that itch like hell & drive me to distraction...., if they burst I end up with very very painful holes that take literally months to heal, (not that that stops me scratchingNoNo) especially in my sleep, not good when they are on the soles of your feet!!Confused I've recently had a rather bad episode, (i'm the one who has considered cutting off my foot... that was a really really bad day however) which I do have to put down to stress, however I have been mosturising 3+ times a day, religiously keeping socks on to keep the moisture in & using aloe vera (just because I happen to have some) and they have calmed down again, I like using natural stuff if i can, rather than relying on chemicals, but i do use one of the emollient creams and it does seem to help. I did have a steroid cream from the doctor but although it eased them the first time, after that it didn't prove much help. I would definitely suggest doctors, as the beginning of yours do sound worrying, best place to start. Know what you mean about elbows, does teach you not to have them on the table at meals I presume however....Bigarm

may I ask where in NZ? We have friends in Auckland & Rotarua, & spent 6 weeks travelling around north island in 2011, fab time, beautiful place, although did have problems with sand flies..... take care Barbi xx Big Grin
