Hi everyone,
I am new in the community. I have had some form of Psoriasis all my life, it just goes into remission for a few years and then WHAM it is back.
I have only had one horrible outbreak caused by Strep throat about 21 years ago which created what I call "alligator skin" I never in my life had an outbreak like this and haven't since then. I would say that my body then was covered 97%. It was so long ago I dont even remember what eventually cleared it up, only that it was horribly embarrassing. I will never forget it though and count my blessings every day that it has never again been that bad.
I have had little outbreaks here and there, and have noticed in the last 15 years that based on my weight at the time the Psoriasis is either better or worse. Right now I am about 25 pounds overweight and in September of 2011 it was about gone after losing over 35 pounds. Through the last 18 months I have gained back about 20 pounds because of hip surgery and also hit menopause in Feb 2012. For the last 6 months it has been returning, a little spot becoming bigger and bigger and spreading and spreading. My MD gave me a steroid cream for about 5 weeks and it seemed to help but mostly it just spread to clear areas that didn't have any before. When I ran out and he wouldn't give me a refill it just came back. I have an appt with a derm but not until late October, so I haven't tried many of the prescriptions for Psoriasis yet.
I mostly have it on my calves and thighs, buttocks and abdomen. Some on my stomach, breasts, backs of my legs and elbows but not too bad. It is plaque Psoriasis, that much I know. It doesn't itch, but sometimes it gets irritated and really burns and turns bright red. I never wear shorts out of the house and so far my arms only have a few spots so I can still wear short sleeves.
I feel compared to so many that have it so much worse than me I am lucky to have it wear it can still be hidden in public.
I hope to meet others here.
