It was the first treatment I ever had as a teenager, never was admitted to hospital with it though just given jars of the stuff, it ruined clothes, reduced self esteem even further, for me I suffered psoriasis rather than ruin my clothes and bedding with tar .and at the first sign of sunshine I was strolled off soaking it up, that's what worked for me
I understand it's a good treatment as an in patient as coal tar can be quite effective, however in this day and age when there are so many " clean" treatments that go to the heart of the problem and treat you from the inside to fix the outside .... I can only think it's used as emergency to reduce plaques until another treatment kicks in
