I think my problem has been that I gave up on treatments a while ago as they didn't seem to be working and as the NHS never seemed interested, I just put up with it.
I have a little boy now, just turned 1 a few weeks ago. My wife goes swimming with him and I go and watch occasionally but don't get in as I feel embarrassed at my skin. I would like to join in so have refreshed my determination to sort it out.
I know it's difficult but try not to be embarrassed about psoriasis, we are not all perfect in the way we look and those that are probably have something fake Talking about it with someone like a close friend and explaining what it is and how it can affect anyone at any time of their life helps. Yes giving up is the way most people go, I gave up for many years until I couldn't move and had no choice but to get professional help. I'm glad I did, as I didn't realise how much things had moved on over the years.
You didn't mention if you are seeing a dermatologist, It's definitely the way to go with the NHS.
Re the swimming, is there someone not your wife there who is also sitting around and watching that you feel comfortable with? maybe you could start talking about psoriasis and telling them you feel embarrassed about it, you may end up pleasantly surprised, that person may also be embarrassed about going in because of some other reason.
