I used tar based topicals for many years. They helped but were very messy. I was very relieved to be able to replace the treatment with a better one. I have since tried topical with occlusion for a few persistent spots, but I have been frustrated with this by the development of an allergic reaction to band aid adhesive.
For nearly the past few weeks I have been taking a multi b and 5mg folic acid daily. It is too early to be sure, but I am thinking that my few remaining spots are starting to clear. I read of this idea in some case reports of people on various systemic treatments being given b6, b12, and b9(5mg): It made psoriasis worse for patients taking Humira, otherwise the results were quite varied. I am not sure that taking b vitamins would qualify as a natural remedy, but it is easy to try.
Cheers
Thank you Bill! And I've read the entire thread of your journey, which is amazing to say the least! I am going to look into a b vitamin supplement, it surely cannot hurt! I'm continue to take turmeric daily. I'm hit and miss with the apple cider vinegar, only because I don't always remember.
I am seeing some good progress and will post pictures soon.
An update: I had found a thread here about indigo naturalis and did some reading, including a clinical study. I found some on ebay with good reviews, and I am pleasantly surprised with the results. I have just ordered a second jar. It is just as messy as the tar based topical, but definitely a more pleasant smell. I've also nixed the tanning bed, but using my dermalight for spot treatments, it seems to be less harsh than the tanning bed on my skin.
I know combining treatments won't really tell me what is working effectively, and at this point I'm ok with that. It's working, slowly and steadily seeing improvement. Less pain and irritation, skin is softening and becoming far less "angry red/purple". The funny thing about psoriasis is it sometimes responds well to a treatment, but then there seems to be a plateau. Switching things up...coal tar in morning, indigo naturalis in the evening along with the dermalight every other day. Every flare appears to respond differently when they occur. What may have worked for me in the past may not work for a current flare.
I'm positive, and I appreciate everyone's wisdom and experiences!
