I was then put onto Acitretin 2x 10 mg caps for about 2 to 3 years then it was increased to25mg caps but that made me I'll so it was put back to 2x10 mg caps which I am still on.I still have my palms and the soles of my feet pealing but rest of my body is almost clear. My advice to anybody on methrotrexate to keep having your blood tested at regular times.
Hi Anthony and welcome to the Club and more importantly the Acitretin Clan
Sadly its one of those nasty side effects MTX can have and as you have already found out Acitretin also has its fair share of issues.
Acitretin is my first oral, I started off on 25mg, went up to 30mg to try to boost the clearing but as with yourself the side effects were a little too much, peeling hand and feet, lips as dry as the Sahara and thinning hair. So they dropped me back down to 25mg. I had to stop after a string of persistant headaches. Fortunately I didn't get the dreaded rebound flare, but the Ps did start to return. After some discussion as my options are limited due to other ongoing medical issues, we came to the conclusion that it was probably best to go on a low dose of Acitretin, so I'm back on 10mg a day.
Keep up with the bloods, they are just as important with Acitretin as most other Psoriasis Meds.
