I'm quite glad I'm off it since I experienced very dry lips and the corners of my mouth began cracking at the end of my medication period.
Anyway I just wanted to post an update on the situation and maybe it can be of help to someone else if they are offered this medication for these symptons ( seborrheic dermatitis on scalp, face and chest with folliculiar infections)
Hi Ensto and welcome back , thank you for updating. What a shame the acetretin didn't work . What's the plan for the future will you go on to a biological drug next ?
I've currently been put on a 6 week fluconazole treatment which is an oral anti fungal, I am supposed to take one tablet a week for six weeks. The doctor originally wanted to put me on another antibiotic but I suggested the oral anti fungal treatment. Seborrheic dermatitis is an overgrowth of yeast on the skin (malassezia furfur in my case) and since I only get the pustules and papules where I get my seb derm I think there might be a connection, I'm just gonna have to wait and see.
There have been cultures done on my pustules which shows no signs of bacteria or anything at all really and the doctors still want to prescribe antibiotics. Considering Acitretin is a vitamin A derivative it should reduce sebaceous activity aswell (I believe) but that didn't stop my folliculitis so I don't think the reason for them are oily skin either. I rarely ever get normal acne, maybe one zit on my face every six months.
If the fluconazole treatment doesn't work I'm not sure which route to go next, but I'm going to continute doing research (at this point it feels like I've read every page on the internet lol)
I have no idea what a biological drug is actually so I am definitely going to look that up.
Hi Ensto it sounds as if you are clutching at straws to find some relief it's certainly outside anything I'm aware of but this link will show you the biological treatments available for psoriasis and Psoriatic arthritis Biological Treatments For Psoriasis
There is a wealth of information about them on the forum here and if you put any one of them in the search facility Search it will throw some thread links up for you
Hope you find something that works for you soon
