Had my derm apointment yesterday and my doctor seamed very happy, kept me on 20 mg for the next three months as she didn't see any reason to up my dose. Totally clear of scaling and redness is fading although very slowly. I'll keep you all informed over the coming months Big Grin

Great news!  I'm glad it's working for you and look forward to your updates.

I'm glad the redness is going away, Jim explained that process very well.  As I said, I still have redness but I do still get patches in that area (I'm off Acitretin and it hasn't been bad enough for me to go back on it) so that would explain why my skin still is red there.
Thank you for your replays guys.

Good morning Danny
I'm fairly new to this site as well I am still wading through the info available here and just tripped over this thread. It's looking like I'm on Acetretin in the not too distant future. It is encouraging to see it has worked for you. I look forward to seeing more posts. The more info the better Big Grin
Cheers JohnB

I was hesitant on taking it (but that's me I don't like taking anything) but it worked for me and has worked for others here. I hope it works for you as well JohnB if that ends up being your treatment. Smile

I didn't have a flare up while on it so can't say. As for when it starts to work properly, I think that will vary by person but it does seem to take time. I know if felt like forever and it was a couple of months for me, I actually had thought it wasn't working and then out of the blue it just started clearing. I'd suggest writing down when you increased the dosage and when you flared as that's definitely something to mention to the doctor. It's good to have a journal or record of some kind and helps the doc know how effective your treatment is. I do believe that I heard it's not uncommon to initially notice things get worse but since you cleared and then had a flare up, I'm honestly not sure what that indicates. It could be normal and it may take a bit more time to work for you. If the flare gets worse or you don't notice any improvement soon, I'd notify your doctor and see what they say about it. Good luck!!!!!

Good morning Danny not something I remember reading about. But I'm sure someone here will have an answer for you
Hope it's not too bad for you,  and that your flare up is subsiding and you are getting clear again

Hope the backache eases soon

Good morning Danny. A quick scan on t'interweb there are a couple of sites that quote back pain and joint pain as a side effect. Looks like I might have a little discomfort to look forward to.  Big Grin Please keep up with the posts it is all valuable information / ammo for those of us about to embark on systemic treatments  Thumb

I don't remember having an increase in lower back pain while on Acitretin, but since I often have lower back pain it is possible that I did and just didn't associate the two.

I did find this info online:

You should check with your doctor immediately if any of these side effects occur when taking acitretin:
More common •Back pain•bad, unusual, or unpleasant (after) taste•bone or joint pain...

and the list goes on and on.

You might want to check with your pharmacy or doctor for more information. I find warnings can be overstated due to companies wanting to protect themselves but it doesn't hurt to call to find out if that is something to be concerned about.
