Hope I've posted this in the right place.I've suffered with psoriasis for the past 10 years and psoriatic arthritis for the last 7 years.I've managed to control the psoriasis for most of the 7 years due to injecting methotrexate then moving onto humira. Also taking other medication. For the last month ive been poorly with one thing or another and yesterday a trip to the doctors with me being covered head to toe in spots to be told its guttate psoriasis.apparently brought on by tonsillitis just wondered  if anyone else has experienced this and why humira doesn't seem to have stopped it.

Hello Yumm Welcome to Psoriasis Club

Yes it's in the right place. I never found Humira much good myself and it did give me a reaction, maybe someone else will know more.

Regards.

Fred.

Hi Yumm and as Fred says a big  Welcome to the club, you have come to a great place for information and advice, as all the members here are sufferers the same as you and me.
Fortunately  I have never had guttate psoriasis, but I'm sure several members here will be able to advise you, throat infections are known to trigger flares of the disease. The Health boards are packed with information for you to sift through, and as a member you can use the search button at the top of the page, if you type in "guttate" you will get a list of all the posts that mention it?
I hope that helps  Thumb

I wish you luck and hope you manage to get clear again.
Do keep us informed of your progress
We also have an active off topic section for club for members, where you can come and join in any of the topics ... We are a friendly bunch and you will be made to feel at home (if you bring cookies  Big Grin )

Guttate psoriasis can be a result of an active infection - typically streptococcus. It's really hard to get rid of all the bacteria in that area.

Just because guttate is called psoriasis doesn't mean the process of the disease is the same as plaque. So Humira may work for one, but not the other. You may also consider the lifespan of TNFs are about two years

The delay between infection and guttate flare is typically two weeks.

Hello Yumm,

Welcome to the board. Hope you will find some useful information for sure that is plenty over here.

I don't have psoriasis guttate, but I do have the PsA like you. So I know your problems.

Medication can stop to work, because your body gets used to it, and learns to deal with it, as in get rid of it, as also medication is something that doesn't belong in your body.
So this may force you to step to other medication. You can talk this over with your derm.

It also may be that Guttate is not sensitive for humira, but needs something else. The so called MAB's, MonoclonalAntiBodies, one by one connect/block a specific receptor on your cells. For Guttate this may be another receptor than where Humira binds to.

And indeed it is known that bacteria, like streptocci, staphylococci, etc. do have influence on psoriasis. The infection goes away, but the DNA of the streptococci stays in your blood and is very difficult to get rid of.

Anyway, welcome, and have a good time over here with us.
Caroline

Im having a read through some of the post see if I come across anything that might help.I suppose compared to some ive done well controlling my psoriasis for so long that this flair up really took me by surprise.Funny  how we can suffer with something for ages and not realise there are so many different kinds of psoriasis.
