On a standard elimination diet, usually 4 days is recommended to detect if this is causing issues.

With psoriasis, do we think 4 days without worsening psoriasis is sufficient to conclude this is not a problem food?

Hi Crusty and  Welcome that’s an interesting question, I would say that 4 days is long enough to see if you have a bad reaction to a food or supplement, but not long enough to see if it has any good effect on Psoriasis

What are your thoughts ?

I have no idea, I was hoping somebody with first or second hand experience could chime in.

My plan is, with each step, take 1/2 teaspoon - full teaspoon - 1.5 teaspoons with 15 min gaps in between.
If I don't react, have 2 portions a day for 2 days, then observe for 2 days. If no reaction, continue to next step.
If I react, drop it completely until it goes back to the level it is at now.

I will reintroduce in this order (alcohol will be somewhere along the line - whenever I can't handle being off it anymore):

1. All fruit apart from Melon, Squash, Citrus, cucumber and nightshades
2. Nuts and seeds (apart from peanuts).
3. Legumes
4. Peanuts
5. Non gluten grains (maybe one by one)
6. Dairy
7. Nightshades (one by one)
8. Food with added sugars

Anything I am forgetting to reintroduce? Any advice or criticism here?

My sister reacts very strongly to tomatoes, paprika’s and strawberry.
So for her these are triggers..

For me... no effect at all. Doh and we have partly the same DNA.

With my reintroduction, rather than having 2 portions for 2 days and observing for 2 days, would I be better to add it back and leave it there until/if I get a flare up?

If the 4 day test can successfully tell me that this is not a problem food there is no reason to not permanently reintroduce it. Then when I get a flare up I will remove the food that I am testing in this 4 day window.

If the 4 day test is not successful enough to tell me that this is a problem food, then if removing food from the current window does not calm it down, I will remove the food from the previous window and continue back until it stops to flare.

Otherwise, I could spend a month reintroducing everything with no reaction, then add them all back in and I get a flare and have no idea what it is.

Is this logical thinking or would anybody recommend against it?

I’m sure what you are doing will show if there’s a reaction like an allergy but as far as Psoriasis is concerned I’m almost certain that you won’t see any improvement in your 4 day window
I think ( and it’s only my opinion ) that for you to know if it’s working you need a lot more than 4 days

I do hope someone else who has tried elimination will chime in, but it seems as if it’s not something that has worked for others, or they haven’t tried it
Have you read through alan540 thread How I Cured My Psoriasis By Diet you might pick up some tips there

I don't expect to see improvement in the 4 day window, rather a worsening when a problem food is introduced.

I think 4 days is way too short to tell you anything. You have an autoimmune disease, not an allergy. I would say 6 weeks is the minimum for elimination before introducing one by one.

Elimination has already lasted longer than 6 weeks.

This is the reintroduction phase, one by one in 4 day windows. How long a window do you guys suggest?

I’d say a week, then wait a week to see if there’s a reaction. I think reactions can be “delayed” since it is not an allergy.
