This is a study of the first-in-man intravenous implantation of stromal vascular fraction in a patient with severe psoriasis.

Quote:
Background:
Stromal vascular fraction (SVF) is a mixture of adipose-derived stem cells/mesenchymal stem cells, endothelial/progenitors, pericytes, fibroblasts, and other cells obtained from fat tissue. A small sample of fat or adipose tissue can be obtained under local anesthesia using a cannula. After an enzymatic digestion and centrifugation, the adipocytes (fat cells) are removed to obtain an SVF. Here, we describe the rationale and, to our knowledge, the first clinical implementation of SVF intravenously in a patient with severe psoriasis.

Methods:
Adipose tissue (60 mL) was collected under local anesthesia via a mini-lipoaspirate procedure. The SVF was separated from the adipocytes via centrifugation after an enzymatic digestion. The cells were resuspended in normal saline and injected via bolus push intravenous. The subject was monitored over a period of 12 months for safety (adverse events), medication changes, and quality of life parameters.

Results:
The patient did not report any safety concerns and did not experience any severe adverse events. The patient demonstrated a significant decrease in symptoms with a noticeable difference in skin quality appearance. Psoriasis area and severity index score went from 50.4 at baseline to 0.3 at 1 month follow-up.

Conclusion:
Overall, the patient reported improved quality of life and willingness to continue treatments. This successful initial case study demonstrates that this may be a feasible treatment plan for patients suffering from psoriasis.

That's an interesting single person study, and would be good to see a larger trial of the system and that would show whether it was the placebo effect or a genuine help with the disease ....it's a good start and one to look out for in the future in my opinion

It seems a bit like my treatment, but it’s quite different.

Very interesting.

The big advantage is that you don’t inject strange substances, but body-derived substances, which prevents all kinds of problems as the body doesn’t see it as possible dangerous so there is no immune reaction.

These are cells of various forms and obtained from fat tissue. Mine are derived from my blood and are cell wall deficiënt bacteria.
I Will have to read more about it to get an idea of what it does, in the abstract that is not been described.
If....it teaches the immune system to act on ??? Something??? But what? Than it could be alike my treatment which teaches my immune system to attack bacteria that do not belong in my body.

I'll try to rephrase the article in something that makes sense to me and perhaps also to you.

The SVF (Stromal Vascular Fraction) is derived from fat-tissue. It contains MSC's (Multipotential adult Stem Cells).
  • MSC's may be benificial for patients experiencing excessive inflammation.
  • Stemcells may reduce the inflammatory response in Psoriasis
  • With the therapy cytokines IL-6, IL-17 (!) and TNF-alpha may be inhibited
  • for Jim: Has been tested on mice.  Tongue
  • MSC's are a part of the human healing system (also called the immune system)
As you see, there is a lot of "may"s
The SVF is easy to extract and as easy to inject. Studies have found no danger, nor side-effects, in using it.
It is reported in more studies that SVF has a positive effect on a lot of diseases that have a relation with the immune system.

The SVF cells, as they are Stem cells, have the ability to divert and adapt to the necessary cell types.

The Psoriasis patient that was treated has received a significant quality in life during a period of 12 months. The article show a few pictures where you can see the results, only
  1. I don't think it is allowed to republish over here without permission
  2. The pictures are qualitatively meagre, certainly compared to the quality of pictures that are normally posted over here.
In all the result seems very positive. It is a long term, slow treatment, but resetting or learning of an immune system will take its time.

My conclusion:
Compared to my treatment, described in my journal [Group Specific], it has an a-like purpose, namely the enhancement of the immune system in such a way that it will fight the Psoriasis.
In my treatment the working of it has been explained and is understood. The use and working of stem-cells as a treatment is not yet fully understood. It is also not yet clear if repetition of the treatment is necessary of if the immune system is adapted in such a way that it in future can deal with Psoriasis and its comorbidities. But certainly this treatment seems to be very promising and may perhaps even be capable of resetting the immune system and thus provide for a long term, effective, safe, cheap treatment without the side effects of the known medications. It almost serves as a body sourced biological.

Further studies (of course) should warrant the long term effects.

Reading it I become very enthusiastic. Hopefully we are going to hear more about this treatment and hopefully it will not be crushed by the pharmacological industries, as it significantly hurts their profit model.

Well done Caroline. I couldn't get through it all, I get fed up with reading. Rolleyes

I do think it's a good thing to investigate but the optimist I am (joke) tells me it won't have the legs to go far.

#1 If it is working then it could be like Jim said "A Placebo"

#2 There is no money to be made from it, so it's not going to attract much investment for future trials.

#3 The big pharma companies would probably buy the patent and shut it down.

Yes it's great to see people are trying something different, but I don't see a future for it
