Not sure if this is the right place, but ibuprofen has been shown to increase risk of heart attack by 31%, and diclofenac increases risk to 50%, which I thought relevant news to those of us who take them to relieve psa symptoms.
There is some kind of action on platelets and clotting in the blood. Shame because I find they relieve pain much better than paracetamol..

That's bad news indeed. I have very rarely used both. Fortunately my disease isn't bad enough to need pain relief. But it's worth bearing in mind as it's something I wasn't aware of  Confused

There is also aspirin TL, that is nowadays much better than it used to be.

I hardly ever use painkillers, mainly because not necessary and I am quite unwilling to do so. When I need one, I now use the biological one I got from my doc. The effect is not so strong, but I like it being on a natural basis.

But thanks for the mentioning of diclofenac and ibuprofen.

TL I have changed your heading to "Ibuprofen use for psoriatic arthritis" that will make it more relevant for this section.

Thumb

I used to use Paracetamol when I was really bad but I've never used the ones you mention. Having said that I prefer to go without as much as possible with pain killers as my thinking is to only use them when the pain is very very severe.

I have been using ibuprofen with pretty much gay abandon lol! But I will have to be a lot more careful in the future. I sometimes get migraine and it's so bad I'd pretty much take anything you put in my hand.. at that point I have ibuprofen and soluble paracetamol.

I suppose you have to weigh it up and make a choice.

It also depends on how the research has been interpreted. There are conflicting statistics out there from various sources. Yes there is a risk, but as with all drugs there is a risk and you have to take the risk in one hand and the relief it gives in the other.

I'm lucky and never experienced migraine, my brother has and he says it's hell. If I did experience it I would then weigh up the fors and against, I don't think I would be happy taking them often but occasionally for relief wouldn't bother me.

Not sure if this is useful information, but I'll add it.

I'm on Chlorthalidone used to treat high blood pressure and to get rid of extra fluid (diuretic).  Under cautions it recommends talking to your doctor before taking some over the counter medicines such as Ibuprofen as they can raise blood pressure.  It also lists lots of others, cough, cold, stimulants and like products.

Ibuprofen taken in excess can cause liver issues but that is rare as long as you don't exceed the recommended daily amount.  Ibuprofen as well as other NSAIDS can dilute blood vessels leading to the kidneys that can cause injury (I found this out by looking it up just yesterday) but the injury to the kidneys can be reversed if you stop taking them.

When I started on Chlorthalidone, I stopped using Ibuprofen due to the warning.  At the end of last month, I had my yearly physical and due to a problem with inflammation, I asked my doctor about taking Ibuprofen while on Chlorthalidone.  His recommendation was that although the medicine is for high blood pressure, the real problem comes with it being a diuretic and although ok to take, I should make sure to consume plenty of fluids if I take Ibuprofen while on it.  Hence why I was looking into Ibuprofen relating to fluid loss and read up on how it can affect the kidneys.

So that's all the information I have to add.  Inflammation can also be dangerous so like with any medication it's always best to go without if you can BUT there is a reason for Ibuprofen (inflammation, pain, etc) and each individual has to decide for themselves what they need, especially when you're taking other medications and the possible downsides.  In my case, I'll take Ibuprofen when needed, but only when needed, and I'll make sure to get plenty of fluids.

Although this doesn't relate to taking Ibuprofen while taking medications for psoriatic arthritis, I felt it could be useful information.

Edit:  I should add that my blood pressure is good now and was only every "borderline" high but due to problems with excess fluid my heart doctor prescribed the medication.  I mention this as if I had more of a problem with blood pressure, the answer (from my primary physician) to taking Ibuprofen might have been different.  I don't know if it would have or not but wanted to mention it.

Nice heading Fred !!!!

All drugs will kill you if you take enough of them because just about everything is a poison taken in large enough doses even water and oxygen.
I am always a bit sceptical about these surveys ,I read about them but I don't think that any concrete evidence was put forward as far as I know.
I used to use Naproxen 500mg for my PsA and it caused stomach ulcers which I suppose are life threatening mind you I went down to the supermarket with my neighbour in his car yesterday and that was definitely life threatening .
I think that as long as you are sensible and look after yourself then you should be OK.

I just noticed this thread.

Now, because I have a few other medical problems, I take a number of tablets etc every day.

I take 1000mg of naproxen, amitriptyline, 50mg, morphine and a few other tablets.

My PsA effects mainly my my fingers, wrists etc.

I use to take ibuprofen for my spine but I came off it because it had no effect in the end.

For migraines, bad headaches, I take Aspro. It's brilliant and I have noticed it eases my painful finger joints up.

As Dave says, be sensible when taking these pain killers.

Ibuprofen doesn't help me (still basically own stock in the size bottles I buy) and I'm in a major flare (I couldn't find a PsA test score on this site). I started Cosentyx 3/27 as we say in the USA, but for the last 2 weeks, also Tramadol from a pain management doctor who is new to me and is very conservative. It also doesn't work well and I usually take it differently than prescribed (but not with alcohol or anything). I am a working student, so I sit long hours with commuting up and down stairs in between. Unfortunately, my flare areas are my foot, pelvis, sacrum, and lumbar spine. So shoes, sitting or laying on my stomach or back are unbearable. I took a ride in a car with lumbar support- torture machine.

But it really reads like people just live with this excruciating pain? I kind of can't believe this? This is all that's on my mind. I can't wait for bedtime. The only wake time I look forward is my coffee, which I love and now need to reduce, and then it's H-E double hockey sticks LL for the rest of the day.

My roommate bought 4% lidocaine and I rubbed it all over but it just ice burns my skin.

The rheumie said it would be 1 week for the Cosentyx to start working. But Fred's journey looked like he started at flare and it took 3 months. Am I supposed to put a knife under the bed to cut the pain?

I think my chipper personality and active participation in researching this disease are betraying my pain levels. Also, I've been unable to take my pants off since my back went out Thursday  Whistle

NO PAIN MEDS?
