After years of complete resolution of skin issues, I suddenly have had an area on my arm recur. A plaque about 2 inches in diameter and some scalp issues as well. I take 0.8 of 25mg/ml sub cu weekly. Also take the prescribed folic acid daily
I have researched everything I can find that might address this MTX therapy failure... and found no information discussing this.
Has anyone here had this issue? and if so what were you able to "do" about it?

All treatments can fail after a while, it's just one of those things.

Your options would be to talk to your dermatologist about the dose or ask about moving onto something else.

Unfortunately it can take a while to get something that works, but even when we do it can sometimes stop working.

I'm not a methotrexate fan, but someone else may have a better answer for you.

Hi and   to the club MN  I'm sure as Fred  has said most treatments after  awhile do tend to give up and then it's time to look at other options.....however as he also said investigate with your dermatologist the possibility of increasing the dose if you have tolerated it well for a long period. It might just be tweaking the dose that's needed. Or just a temporary blip....have you done anything to trigger a flare up, been stressed more than normal?

I gave up on methotrexate  due to the side effects so never gave it a chance to stop working for me, so I can't be much help I will put a message in the newsletter ( which you can get by subscribing here Groups )

I hope you find some useful information here as all the members are happy to discuss treatments and offer advice .. there is a wealth of information and if you enter methotrexate in the search bar here Search you will get lots of posts flag up

Hi, I only took it for a year, as it worked really well to begin with but stopped working after a while, even when my dose was increased. Everyone is different though..

the stuff has been a miracle drug for me... just worked incredibly well for many years.
The Rx of choice for me as it costs pennies compared to any of the others and I am uninsured.
Side effects?.... I have been fatigued alot, but nothing dire...my liver seems happy.
Triggers for flare?... probably.. increased stress?.. boat loads ( i don't really believe in stress, so i write that off )
Would like to hear from others with MTX failure to hear how they managed it and if what they did worked.... going to a biologic is just not in the mix for me.

Always nice this MTX, read my very first post Hello 2U all on this forum about it, and succeedingly a discussion on MTX.

You may come to the conclusion that I do not like it.
Sure it is cheap, but I don't trust it.

There are other possibilities, but difficult when you are not insured, how come is that so.?

Hi again I see from reading your earlier thread that you have been having problems since 2015, I'm thinking from that that you should now consider a change of therapy...

You say you don't have insurance so biologicals are out of the quiestion, burst there are two other oral treatments you could switch to that are still cheap as drugs go

There is acetretin see this thread Acitretin it is also low cost and also very effective

Or there is cyclosporine see this thread Ciclosporine they are both worth thinking about

it is funny that it has only "failed" to a point and no further.
Will look at the alternatives certainly.... frankly if it stays as a 2" plaque on one arm I can put up with it... , and thats pretty much all it has been...
lots of detective work to do.

Are you using a topical cream as well on the arm?

And one last thing ....you aren't taking folic acid on the methotrexate day are you ?

Hi I took MTX for 9 years and it worked for me but the side effects catch up , try injection which may do the trick but all treatments seem to eventually fail. Try Enstillar on your arm it may be enough to control the P . I take Stelara now and I can recommend it for P , I have found that stress is a factor in my P.
