Comment about COVID treatment and psoriasis - ChMiller - Mon-12-06-2023

Hello all, I am interested to know if anyone else has had this experience. The second time I got COVID, I was prescribed Paxlovid. Two days into the medication, every trace of my psoriasis disappeared, but all came back as soon as I finished the medication. If others have had the same experience, we should find a way to make the medical research community aware that they should look into it, but if it was just me, I guess I shouldn't make much of it.

I would say medical research are already checking out any links with covid, it's treatment and psoriasis. There are some threads in relation to covid and psoriasis but not many on the covid treatments and psoriasis.

You can find those threads by using the Search facility only available to logged-in members, but there is no mention of Paxlovid. Maybe others will know more.

It's still early days for results from these things, but should anything come in it will get posted here. Keep an eye on Psoriasis In The News  Thumb

Welcome to Psoriasis Club by the way.  Wave

Regards.

Fred.

Hi ChMiller,

Welcome to Psoriasis Club .

That is an amazing side effect of Paxlovid. Apparently it does something that special to your immune system that psoriasis was being suppressed or disabled.

I have never used it, don’t even know if it is available over here in Europe. And I read in an article that it is prescribed for people who have risk factors, which apparently you have.
I haven’t heard of anyone here on the forum who has used it, but that doesn’t mean that no one did. Smile

Let’s wait and see.

I also read something about the side effects of Paxlovid, and I honestly must say that most other medications for psoriasis do have less side effects than this medicine.

Hi - nice to meet you Wave

Did they also give you prednisolone alongside the antiviral?

Hi and welcome to the forum , what an amazing side effect and one that I would bring to the manufacturer's attention as it may be something they haven't heard of and might be interested in trialing it on others . But it's not a side effect I have heard of being mentioned on here
Good luck

I know that being on a steroid temporarily made the stubborn spots on/behind my ears disappear, but it was only temporary and steroids aren't a long term solution.

First time hearing about Paxlovid. I tried to do a search to see if it contained steroids but got mixed results (from the same site!) so no clue if there's any correlation there.

Paxlovid interferes with a metabolic pathway that breaks down many drugs, so if your psoriasis treatment is metabolised this way it could become more effective if you take Paxlovid.
